Orca Watching

(Just to warn you….a fair few posts coming up – highlighting the last few weeks of holidaying around the island with the lovely visiting Kaska! Woop!)

Orca trip!

The boat left from downtown Nanaimo, and headed straight south, towards where the Orcas had already been spotted by other boat companies.  We stopped first at some lovely sealions and seals.

When we got to the orcas it really was incredible – there were about 8 there, including a baby.  The white part of the baby is more of an orangeish colour than white, pretty cool! And also a fun fact that I’m not ashamed to admit I didn’t know – Orcas are actually dolphins!  Not whales…..

They stayed visible a lot of the time, with tails and even spyhopping (where they jump with their head up to have a look around!).  We spent at least an hour just watching and following them 🙂
